Why Abia Government stopped Okorocha’s birthday reception

The Abia State Government has explained
why it suspended the birthday reception of
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha from
holding at the Abia State Polytechnic,
asserting that okorocha did not seek the
necessary permission. It further said that,
“it will not be drawn into unnecessary
matters with Imo state government over
mundane issue.”
The Sun Newspapers had reported on
Saturday that the birthday reception which
was to hold in the Polytechnic premises
was put on hold following the orders of the
Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, as the state government purportedly suspected that the birthday was another avenue for
the Imo governor to launch the recently registered All Progressives Congress, APC,in the state.
But in a reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia Governor, Ugochukwu Emezue, denied that the state government’s action had any political reason, explaining that, Mr.Okorocha had organized
to launch a pet-project called Imo Rescue Mission at the Abia State
Polytechnic with no prior permission from the school authorities. He stated further that the Abia state Police
Command was also not informed about the event. Mr. Emezue, while advising Okorocha said, he should
hold his pet project in Imo state, instead of moving it down to Abia
state, assuring him that the good relationship existing between him and Orji will continue
uninterrupted. He further affirmed that the state would do everything
possible to stop the infiltration of political
thugs from other states.
