IG places Police on red alert for Independence Day celebration

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr
Mohammed Abubakar, has placed
operatives of the force on red alert
nationwide to ensure a hitch-free
Independence Day celebration.
This is contained in a statement issued in
Abuja by CSP Frank Mba, Force Public
Relations Officer (FPRO) and made available
to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on
Sunday.
It said that the I-G specifically directed all
Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of
Police and Commissioners of Police in
charge of state commands and maritime to
ensure adequate and effective deployment
of operational tools and manpower in their
areas.
He also directed them to pay
special attention to shopping
malls, parks, beaches, highways and other
critical infrastructure and sensitive areas to
guarantee the safety of the citizenry.
He assured that the police would provide
safe and secured environment for all,
particularly during the anniversary.
Abubakar congratulated President Goodluck
Jonathan and Nigerians on the occasion of
the nation’s 53rd independence.
He commended the courage and
determination of Nigerians to build and
sustain a strong, indivisible and virile
nation, in spite of the challenges
confronting the nation.
The I-G urged Nigerians to put their
differences aside and continue to support
the police in the face of current security
challenges facing the country.
He also urged them to provide useful
information to the police, especially with
regard to the ongoing fight against
terrorism and other forms of crimes. (NAN)
