Bride-to-be commits Suicide as She test HIV positive in benue

The residents of Usar community in Kwande
Local Government Area of Benue State were
left in shock yesterday after a woman, who
preparing to get married, allegedly took her
own life.
Joy Ngufan Iorzaa was preparing to marry
her fiance, Aondover Auva Shande and
preparations were underway until they
were cut short by her death.
On discovering her body in a forest, the
news spread around the committee and the
widespread belief was that she was
murdered. However, details came to light
after investigation and it was revealed that
she and her fiance had been found to be HIV
positive.
Leadership reports:
LEADERSHIP Friday understands that Iorzaa
was alleged to have committed suicide in a
forest, while kneeling; a position which
prompted many to conclude that she must
have been killed by unknown persons, before
her lifeless body was hung a tree.
Confusion rapidly turned into controversy,
when the family of the deceased and some
members of the community demanded
immediate explanation from her fiancé,
Shande.
After the corpse had been discovered, it was
gathered that Iorzaa must have committed
suicide after medical tests proved that both
she and Shande had tested positive to a HIV/
AIDS test.
The police public relations officer, Deputy
Superintendent of Police Daniel Ezeala, who
confirmed the incident yesterday, said that
“no arrest has been made but the matter is
with the command and investigation into the
case is on-going”.
