MUSON set to celebrate 30th anniversary

The organisers of the 30th anniversary of
the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON)
have unveiled programmes outlined for the
celebration which kicks off from October 17
through to 27 at the Centre in Onikan,
Lagos.
The MUSON will clock 30 on the
October 25, 2013, which incidentally
falls in the period of its annual MUSON
festival.
Activities for MUSON festival include:
My Kind of Music on October 17
featuring Femi Akinkugbe, Stefano de
Leo, Evelyn Oputu and Amb. Patrick
Dele Cole OFR; The MUSON Jazz festival
on the October 19 featuring Afrobeat
King Femi Kuti and Afro Jazz Diva Yinka
Davies; The Classical Concert on October 20
featuring Manami Sano, Ulf Klausenitzer
and Thomas Kanitz.
The MUSON day will feature a Youth
Concert with the 12 Finalists from the
musiquest competition, Latin American
Music, Tango and ‘Echoes from the
Lagoon’, a drama stage play written by
Rasheed Gbadamosi. The Gala Concert will
come alive with performances from Victoria
Oruwari, The MUSON symphony orchestra
and The MUSON choir.
The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON)
was founded by some Nigerians who love
and appreciate classical music. They include
Akintola Williams, Louis Mbanefo, Chief Ayo
Rosiji, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi and
Francesca Emanuel, alongside Sir Mervyn
Brown, the then British High Commissioner
in Nigeria and Lady Brown.
The Musical Society of Nigeria was born in
1983 with the primary objectives being to
promote the understanding and enjoyment
of classical music, and promote the
education of children in the performance
and theory of music.
