Chizoba Mbonu, 34-Year- Old Nursing Mother Arrested For Drug Smuggling

A 34-year-old nursing mother, Chizoba
Mbonu is currently undergoing
interrogation in connection with an
unlawful exportation of 6 kilogrammes
of cannabis to China, the National Drug
Law Enforcement Agency, NDELA said on
Monday.
The nursing mother of a three month old
baby, allegedly attempted to smuggle
compressed, dried Indian hemp hidden
inside a luggage meant for export on an
Ethiopian airline flight.
The drugs were detected by NDLEA
officials during the routine inspection of
cargoes at the Nigerian Aviation Handling
Company, NAHCO, shed at the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
Ms. Mbonu who is a Clearing and
Forwarding agent, has a choice to be with
her baby while investigation lasts,
according to the NDLEA.
“The bag contains clothing, cell
phones, cell phone batteries, and
shoes,” Hamza Umar, NDLEA Lagos Airport
Commander, said.
In her statement to the NDLEA, the suspect
claimed ignorance of the contents of the
bag.
“I am a licensed Clearing and Forwarding
agent with five years experience. I was
given the bag by a client to send to China,”
Ms. Mbonu said.
“I was told that the bag contained sample
goods, unfortunately drug was hidden
inside,” Ms. Mbonu added.
The NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade said
that the suspect will be charged to court
soon.
