Anambra: PDP insists on Nwoye, to appeal judgment

The Peoples Democratic Party has insisted
that Mr. Tony Nwoye remains its
governorship candidate for the November
16 governorship election in Anambra
State.
It said that it would appeal the judgement
of a Federal High Court sitting in Port
Harcourt, which nullified Nwoye’s election
and ordered that Chief Nicola Ukachukwu
should be recognised as the party’s
candidate.
The National Publicity Secretary of the
party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated this in an
interview with journalists in Abuja on
Wednesday while reacting to the
judgement.
Metuh said that the National Chairman of
the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, had
directed that the office of the National
Legal Adviser of the party should study
the judgement.
He said, “The candidate of the party in
Anambra State is Mr. Tony Nwoye and his
running mate, whose name is submitted
with the Independent National Electoral
Commission, is Dr. Ezike Amachukwu.
“Yes, the NWC has directed the National
Legal Adviser and the legal team of the
party to handle the appeal, but the PDP
and the National Working Committee have
decided that they stand by the primary
that was conducted last month.”
Ukachukwu had file a case against Nwoye,
the PDP and its National Chairman, Tukur
and INEC to challenge the emergence of
Nwoye at the party’s primary which was
held in Awka on August 24.
Ukachukwu, who came second during the
primary, was at the party’s national
headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, to
serve its leadership the judgement, copies
of which were distributed to journalists.
