Canada condemns terrorist attack on Yobe college

Canada has condemned Saturday night’s
attack on the College of Agriculture, Gujba,
Yobe State, that left no fewer than 50
students dead while several were injured.
Members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram,
were reported to have launched a terrorist
attack on the students while they were fast
asleep, setting ablaze hostels in the school
as well. President Goodluck Jonathan,
among other notable Nigerians, has also
decried the act.
Condemning the attack in a statement
made available, on Monday, by the
Canadian High Commission in Abuja, the
countyry’s Foreign Affairs Minister, John
Baird, urged the Nigerian government to
ensure that perpetrators of such act are
brought to book.
“Canada strongly condemns the terrorist
attack on a college in northeastern Nigeria.
The perpetrators of this abhorrent act
targeted innocent students while they were
sleeping.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my
deepest sympathies to those injured in the
attack and to the families and friends of
those who lost their lives. We sincerely
hope that the perpetrators of this
despicable act will be brought to justice.”
He reiterated his country’s commitment to
assisting Nigeria in its fight against
terrorism.
“Canadians stand united with the Nigerian
people in deploring terrorism. We will
continue to assist the people and
Government of Nigeria as they strive to
improve security and uphold the rule of
law,” Baird said.
