An official of the Nigeria Football and
Other Sports Supporters Club has said that the body plans to purchase an
aircraft to reduce the high cost of travelling to support the national
teams.
The Secretary-General of the club,
Samuel Ikpea, said on Monday in Lagos that it would also facilitate the
prompt implementation of its mandate of supporting the teams, wherever
they competed.
Ikpea told the News Agency of Nigeria that the idea had not been fully discussed by members of the club.
He said it was laudable, considering the huge amount spent on attending international competitions.
“This project, though not yet
deliberated upon by the members, has a lot of benefits for the club in
performing its duties for the entire country.
“Of course, the tiring process of
boarding commercial aircraft would be bygone, as well as all forms of
delays we used to suffer with commercial flights.
“In addition, the huge sum of money
spent on travelling would be reduced and we will be able to mobilise
more supporters to cheer our teams to victory in any competition,’’ he
said.
Ikpea added that the aircraft, which
would also operate commercial flights, would generate income for the
club to carry out some of its programmes.
“It will be a source of income for our
club and whatever is generated will be used for its maintenance and to
carry out some projects which inadequate funding has impeded,’’ he said.
