Court sentence man to seven strokes of a cane for possession of indian hemp

An Upper Area Court sitting in Karu, FCT, on Friday,
sentenced one Hamisu Baballo, to seven strokes of
the cane, without an option of fine, for possession of
Indian hemp.
The Magistrate, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, handed down
the sentence after the accused had pleaded guilty to
the charge.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Jerry Tangshak, told the
court that the accused was allegedly caught under
Nyanya Bridge with 9 wraps of Indian hemp.
He said that the case was reported at the Nyanya
Police Station on Sept. 12.
Tangshak said Baballo confessed to committing the
offence during police investigation.
He said that the accused had told the police that
he bought the wraps of the Indian hemp at Apo
round about for his personal use.
